Catholic Conference of Korea

Establishment

The Catholic Conference of Korea (CCK) was established by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea (CBCK) on January 11, 1952, as the central publishing house, in order to carry out Church’s mission by printed materials on the national level.

Major Works

- To exchange information on missionary pastoral works, and to enhance the bond of Catholic Dioceses in Korea
- To publish the Bible, Liturgical books, Catechetical books and translated documents from the Apostolic See
- To publish the official magazine, Kyeong Hyang Magazine
- To distribute books about Catholic Church and promotional materials approved by the Church authorities
- To promote the exchange of the faithful domestic and overseas
- To support urgent relief activities domestic and overseas, and Catholic charity works

They are elected by the CBCK General Assembly for a period of three years.

Administration

The General Secretariate is to manage works of the CCK by Secretary General and a few directors. They are appointed for a period of three years.

Brief History

April 5-8, 1949 The establishment of the Catholic Conference of Korea(CCK) was decided by the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Korea(CBCK). Rev. Ki Hoo Keun was appointed as Secretary.
January 11, 1952 The CCK registered itself as a corporate juridical person in the Ministry of Education of the Korean Government and received the approval for its establishment.
June, 1954 The Secretariate of the CCK was moved from Busan to Jangchung-dong, Jung-gu, Seoul.
August 1, 1958 Rev. Seo Seok-tae was appointed as Secretary.
October 20, 1965 The Secretariate of the CCK was moved to Gye-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul.
May 12-14, 1966 The Secretariate of the CCK has combined the functions of the Secretariate of the CBCK.
Rev. Angelo Kim Nam-sou was appointed as Secretary to the CBCK.
October 5, 1967 The CBCK constructed its new building and moved to Chungmu-ro, Jung-gu, Seoul.
1973 At the CBCK Spring General Assembly, the title of Secretary was changed to Secretary General in order to intensify the function of its Secretariate of the CCK and the CBCK, to convene a joint conference of all executive secretaries of National Committees and to play a role to promote the solidarity.
At the CBCK Autumn General Assembly held from October 15 to 19, Rev. Lee Jong-heung was appointed as Secretary General of the CCK and the CBCK.
1981 At the CBCK Spring General Assembly held on May, Rev. Simon Cheng Eun-kyu was appointed as Secretary General of the CCK and the CBCK.
July 16, 1986 The CBCK held the Blessing Inauguration Ceremony of the Building at Neung-dong, Seongdong-gu, Seoul. It purchased the land in 1983 from the Catholic Foreign Mission Society of America-Maryknoll Fathers & Brothers: M.M.
1990 At the CBCK Autumn General Assembly held from November 19 to 22, Rev. Paik Nam-ik of the Diocese of Daejeon, ordained in 1953, was appointed as Secretary General of the CCK and the CBCK.
1996 At the CBCK Autumn General Assembly held from October 14 to 17, Rev. John Kim Jong-su of the Archdiocese of Seoul, ordained in 1982, was appointed as Secretary General of the CCK and the CBCK.
2002 At the CBCK Autumn General Assembly held from October 14 to 17, Rev. Casimir Song Yul-sup of the Diocese of Cheongju, ordained in 1977, was appointed as Secretary General of the CCK and Executive Secretary of the CBCK.
2004 At the CBCK Spring General Assembly held from March 15 to 18, Rev. Basil Cho Kyu-man of the Archdiocese of Seoul, ordained in 1982, was appointed as Secretary General of the CCK and Executive Secretary of the CBCK.
2006 At the CBCK Spring General Assembly held from March 20 to 23, Rev. Peter Pai Young-ho of the Diocese of Suwon, ordained in 1985, was appointed as Secretary General of the CCK and Executive Secretary of the CBCK.
2009 At the CBCK Spring General Assembly held from March 16 to 19, Rev. Thaddaeus Lee Ki-rak of the Archdiocese of Seoul, ordained in 1980, was appointed as Secretary General of the CCK and Executive Secretary of the CBCK.
2012 At the CBCK Spring General Assembly held from March 12 to 15, Rev. Thaddaeus Lee Ki-rak of the Archdiocese of Seoul, ordained in 1980, was reappointed as Secretary General of the CCK and Executive Secretary of the CBCK.
2015 At the CBCK Spring General Assembly held from March 9 to 13, Rev. Thomas Aquinas Kim Joon Chul of the Archdiocese of Seoul, ordained in 1986, was appointed as Secretary General of the CCK and Executive Secretary of the CBCK.
2018 At the CBCK Spring General Assembly held from March 5 to 9, Rev. Thomas Aquinas Kim Joon Chul of the Archdiocese of Seoul, ordained in 1986, was reappointed as Secretary General of the CCK and Executive Secretary of the CBCK.
